This is the worst app I’ve EVER purchased from the App store. It always crashes, always! Every time I get online it continually sends me notifications and they can not be shut off. Their customer support is unhelpful and bordering rude. I have asked for help and it’s as if I’m communicating with a computer. Simply put this app does nto work so don’t waste your time (or money). PS. Their good reviews are written by friends of the developers.
With "Elite" in the title…. Online reviews, tech-gurus, all tout this app, but there is scant input re: customer service side. Ive had this app a total 8 days, experiencing issues immediately, starting with 7-day Free Trail period that abruptly ended after just 24 hours only to have a restriction placed on the service and a request for payment, to making a purchase through iTunes that was not recognized, to various kinds of technical issues that include protection dropping, missing buttons on control panels and dashboards, delinking device automatically reinstalling the device, this to name a few. And the cherry-on-top, cumbersome support. Experienced habitual ticket rollovers without given explanation marking them "solved," confusion caused by multiple people responding to requests, no follow-ups, slow email system, no chat or phone capability, lack of insight as to when an issue should be escalated. Basically, we never got pass initial formalities to move on to a resolution. This was my first experience with a VPN subscription. iPhone with iOS 8.1.1 Nothing "zen" about it.
i downloaded it on my school computer & it was working fine installing everything but it ended up asking me for an administrators username & password -_-i got mad
Simple on and off switch function, choose what country you what to be in and you are good to go. I’m not sure why others are reporting so many issues.
Had the same problem as some others have stated – despite the app confirming I was connected to a virtual location in the USA, all sites I visited thought I was in Germany, which is useless to me.

I guess the product works if youre willing to spend hours of SCREAMING RAGE trying to get it working. Incredibly bad website ”Support.” It is not up to customers to debug and keep vendor software working. How can you trust security software that doesnt work properly?
Elite version… connects to US server and then disconnects every 9 - 10 seconds.
This app simpily does not work as advertised. It states it will allow you to watch Hulu and other such websites. It does not. There are very few websites that this actually works with. Do not waste your money on this. Really they need to stop advertising that it will allow Hulu cause it is just a lie. Do not be fooled. I have been using this App for months now and it has never worked for Hulu. There is really only one site I can use it to watch TV overseas. Ugg money wasted on another useless app…..
WHY WOULD YOU CREATE A VPN THAT AUTO DISCONNECT? IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUY THE SERVICE, DON’T! WASTE OF UR MONEY.
when i had purchesed it then i installed in my laptop also bought elite service for 1month subscription…….suddenly i felt my laptop’s data was deleting……..atlast i lost everything……so please don’t purchese it.
Just plain doesn’t work: had to make 3 emails to make it work for one day, and then it expired.
with the new app for mac or IOs it works great. Just click the land where you want to be , it does everything from alone and quick. super easy . I use it to watch golf live in usa or GB . Very helpful.
This app solved my problems. However, since this is an American app, I can see why other users hate it. Thanks.
This app is frustratingly spotty. It connects less than half the time… At first, I learned that when it connected to a Columbus IP address, the “shield” didnt actually work. Ex: if you are in the UK trying to connect to US Netflix or ABC, it won’t allow you to view content OR let you go on a netflix site with limited content. When you’re lucky enough to install a San Jose or Sacremento IP address, it works smoothly for about 12 hours - then you have to reinstall another IP profile and have no control over the location of the IP address you are given so your service is hit or miss. Mostly miss. That was the first few months with the “service” — it has gotten worse. Now, I will try to log on to a website and I am literally BLOCKED from accessing a site because it says “increased risk - and “hotspot shield protection has ended”. When I try to sign in to show I (stupidly) bought a year’s worth and my membership has NOT expired - it will go back to the warning page as if I never signed in. It’s awful. Such a mess. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of buying this terrible product and “service”.
If I’m behind a firewall and it randomly disconnects leaving me exposed, what was the point in being behind a firewall in the first place? Not good.
The HotSpot Shield VPN- unreliable, glicthy, slow. The current version quits unexpectantly in the middle of a session- when it wants, with no warning. It is slow to start and often- maybe one third of the time- requires you to download a new profile, sometimes multiple times- before it will start. In fact, I have just finished downloading and installing multiple new profiles for the second time in a four hour period today. Round and round we go, where we stop… connecting to the U.S. site puts you on google Saudi Arabia. The only VPN profile that seems even remotely reliable is the Canadian site. I gave this VPN two stars- one may have been more appropriate, but I gave extra credit because the HotSpot Shield is a cheap (but not good) alternative to a better vpn
after downloading and attempting installation for Mac it says “eight days left” - when “installing profile” the only option is “Install ‘Hotspot Shield Elite?’” - garbage app. If you’re looking for a free trial, dont waste your time.
I bought it for iPhone because reviews for iPhone are pretty good. Then when I checked App Store for Macs and found all kinds of negative feedbacks. Maybe I could be the lucky guy, so I thought. Starting today, this app keeps asking me to download profiles, one after another. I could not stop it so I had to kill the program. I am not so lucky at all. Now look back, why are there big differences between reviews for iPhone and Mac App Store? Also I have not found any feedback from the maker of this app, Anchorfree. It seems that the job is done for Anchorfree once it is put on App Store. Customer service can be very useful to some companies since you can learn your shortcomings and make your products better. But this does not seem to be the case fo Anchorfree. So my suggestion to the next potential buyers is: DO NOT BUY IT UNLESS THEY PAY YOU.
