HotspotShield VPN - Wifi Proxy App Reviews

This was a great app at the end of 2014 to the beginning of 2015. After the last update from AnchorFree and the updates from Apple on the OS. Hotshield will connect for 9 seconds then drop and reconnect for 9 seconds.

Worked great for about 2 years, I paid for elite and all. even renewed. then I moved to UAE. it worked for a month or two, now, after an update, it will not work on my iPhone. works on my macbook and imac using the same internet connection, but not my phone which i use mostly of the three. Contacted customer support, said they are working on it. has been 6 months, still cannot use the ap. what’s better is that they said they would refund my subscription, but no refund, AND it was automatically renewed today! Fix the ios mobile issue.

worked fine for a while I have been using for over 2 years as a paid subscriber. Now the app wont let me sign Im on my mac. However signing in on my iphone or on the web is no problem. so there is not a problem with my info. Support is slow and frustrating and nobody seems to care. This has been up on their support sight for at least 9 days ( when I relised I had an issue, I dont use this app for every connection) probably a lot longer. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: We are aware that some Elite users are experiencing access issues. We are looking into it right now. Please stay tuned, well update you once the issue has been resolved. I would not advise any one to buy a subsciption at this point.

This app is an awesome thing but only for a week. You have only 1 week to use this thing for free and looks like i am going to buy it.

This App is amazing, i have it on my iPhone, iPad, pc this is my first time installing it on my mac, but i know it will work perfectly.

I paid for hte Elite subscription and I’m still getting the paywall frequently saying that my elite expired… Only way to fix it is to disconnect and reconnect the VPN everytime… I lose my browsing url occassionally because of this.. This adds no value to my subscription and there needs to be some sort of compensation…

AnchorFree seems to have a problem with bookkeeping. This is the second time I got ‘disconnected’ from the Elite service for an allegedly expired subscription. When I questioned, their emails got very confusing, and their instructions impossible or complicated to follow. I finally confronted them with the facts in my records and now suddenly their ‘system shows" that my Elite account ‘is active (with 372 days left) ! They also wanted me to let them know if I continue ‘having difficulties operating HSS”. Not a hint of an apology though!

I originally purchased Hotspot VPN on 7/26/15. I paid for the yearly elite membership through iTunes and was charged on 8/2/15. I use this app on 3 devices. About a month in I started having issues with one of my devices insisting I upgrade to elite membership. One by one my devices all gave this error. I followed instructions on their help pages to uninstall and reinstall the app and “restore” the purchase, but continually get messages that my subscription is not found (despite providing order number and information and having the original invoice). I submitted a ticket to their help desk which was marked as resolved, with no additional communication to me and no actual resolution (still does not work). Additionally, I noticed a definite difference in performance while using the VPN. This app was great - when it actually worked, but the shady business practice and lack of customer experience for paying members is enough for me to move on and try a different application.

I have been using this service for a few months now. It slows down service. It claims to support upto 5 devices but it only supports 4 devices.

Hulu reconizes your using a blocking service… Pandora seems to work fine, but since the app claims to let you use all blocked sites I was a little dissapointed. Maybe if they fix it to work for everything I would consider to subscribe.

The 50-minute paywall bug on BBC sites is still not fixed.

i really like the iphone version but this mac version fails after one hour of usage it say you need elite but i am elite user, i hope this gets fix ASAP!!!!!

THis app is a piece of junk. Hulu and other countries sites can detect this app form a mile away. It doesn’t work for France and Canada among others. Buy this app at your own risk. I going to ask for my subscription money back. Total waste of time

Hotspot shield 1.3.0 Elite connected, but not opening any webpage since update Mac OS X El Capitan to new version 10.11.3 from 10.11.2 .

They claim it is a free service and on my desktop I got the free version. They have since updated the download to only allow you to download the ELITE version which requires a subscription… Where is the free in that?????

Worst UI ever. Constantly harasses you to upgrade to the elite version, when you already are a member. Application won’t close when I want it to, I have to restart my computer.

Don’t know what’s up with this app, but this thing has completley stopped working. Simply will not connect. I emailed the company who was looking into it, told me it was fixed, but it’s not….

Hey Kids!!! Do you like buying and installing an app, then having to constantly tend and fiddle with it to make it work? Do you relish the idea of downloading an endless parade of “Configuration Profiles” and installing them, which requires you to enter your computer’s admin password into a web-connected pop-up window TWICE each time? This happens several times per day - say “goodbye” to your workflow. Also say “goodbye” to your peace-of-mind, as these “Configuration Profiles” have names like “SuperHappyFunTimeViagraBuyingSpree” (okay I made that name up, but the names of these things ARE pretty scary…) Then the FUNNEST part, contacting Hotspot Shield “Support” and having them send you an exhausting list of complicated steps (I counted EIGHTEEN STEPS in my latest email from these jokers) to get their software to start working again. So Hotspot Shield thinks it’s appropriate for the CUSTOMER to engineer the bugs out of their lousy app — I guess that’s what being “Elite” means! According to the ad, Hotspot is the “World’s Most Popular VPN” with over 175 million downloads. REALLY?!? You’d think, if even a TINY PERCENTAGE of those downloads resulted in people subscribing to their OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE in-app purchases, they’d have tons of money to make a worthwhile app. Seriously, I doubt those numbers. If 175 million people actually downloaded this DOG, there would be a lot more than 283 reviews. THIS IS A WORTHLESS APP. If you enjoy hanging by your thumbs, being beaten with a stick, and having acid poured in your eyes, well maybe this is the app for you. Otherwise, RUN AWAY!!!

I have been using the service for almost 3 years and the past year has been terrible. Never connects and if it does it keeps on dropping. In the dashboard there is no option to cancel the account LOL… Switched to IP Vanish and it’s a charm.
